Juneteenth Viewing:
Art as a Cultural Mirror

Studio Acting Conservatory will open Columbia Heights native Akili Ron Anderson’s Last Supper sculpture to the public on Juneteenth weekend 2023.

In a time of amplification of Black American’s stories and experiences, the Conservatory celebrates the uncovering of this important piece of artwork. Created in the early 1980s as a commission for the New Home Baptist Church, Jesus and his disciples are depicted as African American men, who were inspired by the faces of then Columbia Heights residents.
